Romanian Tradition and Continuity. 100 Years of the Romanian Patriarchate | 70 Years of Antibiotice SA
Today, the multidisciplinary conference “Romanian Tradition and Continuity – 100 Years of the Romanian Patriarchate, 70 Years of Antibiotice SA” took place at the Palace of the Romanian Patriarchate. The event was organized in partnership by the Romanian Patriarchate, the Ministry of Health, and the pharmaceutical company Antibiotice Iași.
The conference celebrated two historic milestones of deep significance for Romania: 100 years since the elevation of the Romanian Orthodox Church to the rank of Patriarchate, and 70 years of continuous activity by Antibiotice SA—a leading Romanian pharmaceutical manufacturer, recognized for its excellence in producing antibiotics and topical medicines.
In his opening remarks, His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, head of the Romanian Orthodox Church, emphasized the importance of caring for the sick as an expression of Christian love, and called for close collaboration between healthcare professionals and spiritual leaders, for the benefit of patients.
“More than two decades have passed since we established a strong and lasting collaboration with Antibiotice Iași, cultivating the relationship between science and spirituality in the service of humanity. By a happy coincidence, this prestigious pharmaceutical company marks its 70th anniversary this year. The founding year of the Iași-based factory—1955—is also deeply meaningful for our Church, as it was the year of the canonization of several Romanian saints and the national recognition of the veneration of Saint Parascheva of Iași, the protector of Moldova. The achievements of generations of pharmaceutical experts and workers—driven by dedication, commitment, and creativity—have earned recognition both in Romania and across many regions of the world, for their contribution to healing and health restoration”, said His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel.
Ioan Nani, CEO of Antibiotice Iași, also highlighted the company’s strategic role in supplying essential medicines to hospitals in Romania and abroad, while underlining the special meaning of the shared anniversary: “At 70 years since its founding, Antibiotice is more than just a company. It is a symbol of the Romanian pharmaceutical industry, honoring the tradition that brought it here and prepared to embrace future challenges. It is a community of people who interweave faith with science, grace with precision, and vocation with responsibility.”
The conference brought together over 500 participants, including members of the academic community, national healthcare authorities (such as the Romanian College of Pharmacists and the Romanian Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care), physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and hospital chaplains from across the country.
The two conference sessions addressed topics such as: promoting preventive health actions, best practices in patient care, Antibiotice’s contributions to the development of life-saving therapies, and the relationship between faith, vocation, and science in the medical act.
The event reflected the organizers’ intention to strengthen the bond between physical and spiritual health, promoting a model of partnership dedicated to the common good and to values that unite spirituality and responsibility within the community.
